Student Project – Mammary Carcinoma App

One of the tasks that medical doctors working in the gynecology department have to perform frequently is monitoring mammary carcinoma (breast cancer) patients post treatment. It is important for these patients to record their health status and state of general wellbeing on a regular basis, as well as to report back to their physician at predefined intervals. Although this is vital, patients too often find it difficult or forget recording their data. To remedy this problem, students of the Kiel University of Applied Sciences are currently developing a smartphone application, i.e. an app that will support mammary carcinoma patients in the post treatment phase. This app is being developed by students under professional supervision and in close cooperation with gynecologists. The main features of the app are reminding patients to book appointments with their physician at the appropriate times and entering these appointment into the patient’s calendar, regularly asking for and recoding the patient’s health status via a simple and intuitive interface, as well as providing medical background information on mammary carcinomas and relevant relating issues.
